Once Upon a Time at Cat Café Maui: A Tale of Love, Hope, and Divine Providence

At Cat Café Maui, nestled in the heart of our island paradise, we often witness incredible stories of connection, love, and second chances. But every so often, a tale comes along that feels truly extraordinary—a story where all the pieces fall into place as if by divine Providence.

This is the story of Spice and Doug (Now Koa), two kittens who found their forever homes thanks to the unwavering love of adopters, the dedication of volunteers, and a little bit of magic.

Ashley was overwhelmed with joy when she learned the news: Spice was finally coming home.

The Journey Begins

Spice, a five-month-old calico kitten with one eye, was originally spotted at the Maui Humane Society. She quickly captured the hearts of Ashley and David, kind souls from Boston. Spice was soon moved to Cat Café Maui, where Ashley contacted us, asking if there was a way we could bring her to Boston.

As much as Ashley longed to adopt Spice, the logistics seemed daunting. Without a volunteer flying to Boston, there was no way to get Spice to her new home.

For nearly a week, we prayed, hoped, and reached out to potential transporters. Each passing day made it seem less likely—but then, fate stepped in.

Enter Robert and Aurora

A few days later, a window shopper at the mall wandered into our café. Robert and Aurora, kind-hearted animal lovers, not only expressed interest in adopting but also mentioned they were flying to Boston that very day! It was as though the universe had delivered exactly what we needed.

However, time was tight. To fly with an animal in the cabin, airline rules require a veterinary health certificate issued within 10 days of travel. Coordinating a last-minute appointment seemed impossible—but once again, the stars aligned.

A Race Against Time

With a few phone calls and a lot of determination, we secured a vet appointment with Maui Direct Release & Aloha Veterinary Care. As luck would have it, a storm the day before had cleared the clinic’s schedule, making it possible for us to secure the necessary paperwork just in time.

Thanks to their dedicated team, Spice and another kitten, Doug—a four-month-old black kitten—were cleared to travel together to Boston.

Ashley was overwhelmed with joy when she learned the news: Spice was finally coming home.

Happily Ever After

Robert and Aurora stepped up as true heroes, ensuring both kittens made the journey safely. Today, Spice and Doug are thriving in their new homes in Boston, bringing joy and love to their adoptive families.
