Hawaii has far more homeless cats than there are available adoptive homes. Many mainland communities have families waiting to adopt but not enough kittens or friendly cats available. Every cat that finds a home opens space for another rescue cat in Hawaii.
-
We absolutely do! Most of our cats are adopted locally through Cat Café Maui. Off-island adoptions are only for cats that already have approved adopters or trusted rescue partners waiting on the mainland.
-
Yes, every community has cats in need. We work only with rescue partners in areas where there is adoption demand or where shelters have requested additional cats. These partnerships help cats that might otherwise wait much longer for homes.
-
The transportation is made possible through volunteer travelers, donations, and adopters who cover many of the costs. These transports don't take resources away from local rescue—they help create more space so we can rescue additional cats here in Hawaii.
-
No. Our rescue partners specifically request cats because they have available adopters or need kittens. We only transport cats when there is demand and an approved destination waiting.

We strongly support spay and neuter—it is the long-term solution. At the same time, thousands of friendly cats and kittens already need homes today. We believe in doing both: preventing future litters while finding homes for cats that already exist.

No. Every cat travels safely in the cabin with a volunteer passenger, under the seat in front of them, just like someone traveling with their own pet. We coordinate health certificates, airline requirements, and pickup at the destination.
-
Travel can be stressful, but we do everything possible to make it safe and comfortable. Cats travel in airline-approved carriers, receive health exams before departure, and are picked up immediately upon arrival. For many cats, a few hours of travel means a lifetime in a loving home.
-
Our cats are placed through approved adopters or trusted rescue organizations. If an adoption isn't successful, our rescue partners work to ensure the cat remains safe and is placed in another appropriate home.
-
No. Fly Hawaii Cats is a rescue program. Donations help cover transportation expenses, supplies, and veterinary requirements. Our mission is to save lives—not generate profit.
-
Many visitors fall in love with a cat while visiting Cat Café Maui. Instead of leaving that connection behind, they choose to give the cat a forever home and take a piece of Maui home with them.
-
Community cats have an important place, but friendly and adoptable cats deserve the opportunity to live safely in a loving home. Every cat we place means one less cat competing for limited resources on the island.
How can I help?
You don't have to adopt to make a difference! You can:
Volunteer your flight.
Foster a rescue cat.
Donate to help cover transportation costs.
Share our mission with friends and family.
Adopt a rescue cat if you're ready.
Every volunteer, donor, traveler, and adopter helps create another happy ending—for both the cat that flies and the next cat waiting to be rescued.
